This is a huge bar in the right part of town. The bar takes on an authentic feel with its decor which is pleasant enough. The front of the bar is covered in Glass to let in the natural light from the quayside but it is always nice when you are sitting in this pub to realise how good your night is going to be considering the passers by.

There is plenty of room to sit in this pub, actually there is plenty of everything in here as it does get very very busy during the evening as it is a good stop off point on the way down the hill of Dean Street.

Academy Music Group opened Carling Academy Newcastle on Friday 14th October 2005 with an exclusive, sell-out live performance by The Futureheads, plus support from fellow locals, Field Music and Kubichek! Devoted fans were treated to a cracking evening of live entertainment, in true North East style!

AMG announced the successful acquisition of the former Gala Bingo Hall on Westgate Road in April 2005 and a £4,000,000 total refurbishment of the site took place to create a magnificent near 2,000 capacity auditorium.

Historically, the North East has created a wealth of diverse musical talent and the City Centre site already had a musical heritage. Originally built as a Picture House (The New Westgate) in 1927, it was once the legendary Majestic Ballroom, famed for a performance by The Beatles in 1963, who went on to write their biggest selling UK hit, 'She Loves You' after the show! As well as The Beatles, The Moody Blues, The Kinks, Spencer Davis Group, The Hollies, Van Morrison and the Small Faces are just a few other famous names that graced the Majestic Ballroom stage.

Carling Academy Newcastle has been lovingly restored to its former glory, its original ceiling features, stairways, stage and balcony create a dramatic and atmospheric space to present to major artists and AMG has invested heavily in its production with the installation of its PA and lighting equipment to offer high quality, professional, in-house production as standard. The venue also has the capacity to become an 'all seated' format as an alternative arrangement for varied shows and events.

The venue has quickly established itself as a major player on the UK touring circuit. Prior to its opening, the region was distinctly lacking a mid-range venue and following its opening, immediately attracted high quality shows from artists such as Goldfrapp, Supergrass, The Bravery, Athlete, My Chemical Romance, Ian Brown and more!

AMG has also extended its 'Carling Academy 2' concept within this site, following on from success at venues in Liverpool and Birmingham. Carling Academy 2 Newcastle is a stand-alone gig venue and also acts as a second room for club nights and dance events. It is perfect for showcasing new talent from the local area and breaking new acts on the touring circuit. Already, the likes of Tom Vek and Nine Black Alps have graced the stage with exceptional live shows.

With a legendary 'up-for-it' crowd, Carling Academy Newcastle is also home to two weekly club residencies. Almost fourteen years old, 'Bulletproof' is Newcastle's longest running club night and the North East's most successful indie club. Each and every Saturday, 'Bulletproof' features guest rock star DJs and live sets at midnight for the very best in new and upcoming acts. In previous days, the Bulletproof regulars have been treated to live club sets from Kasabian, Bloc Party, Maximo Park, Hard-Fi and more. The NME even quoted 'Bulletproof' as 'the who's who of bands about to become famous!'.

Every Friday Carling Academy Newcastle is home to Revolution and Where Angels Play: two awesome club nights for the price of one. Revolution is a feast of ear bleeding rock & mind bending metal taking in the anthems of punk, ska, hardcore and industrial along the way. The only rock night you'll ever need! Big Competitions with huge prizes to be won every week, also look out for our 'Rev Riots' one off party specials!! Join the Revolution - www.myspace.com/revolutionrocksnewcastle.

A large modern bar that was formerly known as Bar2XS and more recently Sanctuary. It been given yet another refurbishment. The bar is also linked to the Hyena Comedy Cafe bar next door. The bar has an intimate feel to it with separate compartments down one side and subdued lighting with candles on the tables. The large glass fronted doors at the entrance lead through to a very modern and stylish bar.

The decor is a mixture of cream and red pastel colours and there is small spotlighting and metallic pipe work on the ceiling. The main bar area has a stone tiled floor with a large square bar a central feature.

There is plenty of seating throughout the bar with a mixture of high tables and chairs and low cushioned leather seating. There is also a large amount of standing room. To the right hand side of the main entrance is a raised area with low tables and seats with the DJ booth located at one end. This area could also be used as a dance floor or for live events. Regular music and dancing is on play at most times. A DJ is a regular feature throughout the week with guest DJ's. From inside the bar there is a flight of stairs that lead from the main bar up to the Hyena Comedy Cafe. The Hyena also has its own main entrance located further up the lane. There are several TV's dotted about the bar.

The bar attracts a mixed clientele of business people, younger crowd and students and those attending the live events at the Hyena. It should also be popular on match days once it becomes more established, as it is very close to the St James Park football ground. It is quieter throughout the week having only recently re-opened however with the late licence the bar is busy on the weekend.

Disabled access is very good. Toilets are very smart and clean.

We are a private company, and have been letting our own student properties in Jesmond for over 40 years.
Oaks Student Properties in Jesmond Office
We have houses and flats for groups of between one and nine students, with double beds as standard. All our properties are well-situated close to Osborne Road, transport links and both universities.

Many of our student properties are recently refurbished, with a high standard of fittings throughout including washing machines, tumble driers and dishwashers. All of our student properties have gas central heating maintained by British Gas.

All of our properties comply with the universities'' Accreditation Scheme and with council HMO licence regulations. All of our houses have the necessary gas and electrical safety certificates.

We have an in-house maintenance team, so that almost every job can be done without the need to wait for contractors.

Rents vary from £58 per person per week to £80, so there is something to suit all budgets.

Most student tenancies run from July to the following June. New properties are always coming on board so,we do sometimes have availability through the year.

Many of our student tenants stay on from one year to the next. A vast proportion of our tenancies are through recommendations - current tenants are happy with our service and let their friends and family know about us.

All student properties are in the Jesmond area

Jesmond is a popular area of Newcastle, where students have easy access to fantastic facilities.

There are many ''student specials'' at the local businesses - from discounts in cafes to happy hours in bars.

Jesmond is situated to the north of Newcastle city centre, just a short walk to the shops, nightlife and universities. It is well-served by both buses and the Metro.

Large pub that was formerly known as The Fog & Firkin. It has previously been voted Best New Bar for the North and Yorkshire region. The pub is in a prominent position overlooking the Quayside with superb views of the Gateshead Millennium Bridge and Sage Music Centre. The terrace extension has given the pub a new dimension that should make it a popular haunt, especially in the summer when the terrace area is open.

There is smart lighting fixtures throughout with spotlighting to the ceiling. There is plenty of seating with booths down one side and low tables and chairs in the area leading to the new extension. There is an abundance of floor space for standing and for dancing. To the rear there is a small comfortable seating area and a smaller terrace area. The bar is bright and airy with the extension providing natural light throughout.

This is one of the most designer bars in town and everything about the place oozes class. There are two main entrances with automated doors that lead into a very large cafe style pub. Next to this area is a small room that is mainly for standing as there are cylindrical type drums for tables and smart changeable lighting in the floor. The rear of the bar has a large circular lounge area with high seating in the middle and low tables and chairs around the exterior. There is also a space age type lighting fixture in the centre. Very large ultra modern bar with 3 floors, 6 bars, 2 dance floors and a restaurant. This bar has got to be seen to be believed and is one of the largest in town. The impressive glass entrance leads to a smart lounge bar that is open every day of the week. The other 5 bars on offer are normally only open on a Thursday - Sunday. These include a sumptuous Moroccan Kaz Bar, a Raffles bar designed on the Singapore version with ceiling fans, a stylish Manhattan loft, and a 70's style bar. There is also a night club to whet your appetite after sampling one of the many bars.

With the upmarket style the bar is looking to attract a more stylish crowd than its Bigg Market neighbours. To the rear of the lounge bar there is a large a la carte restaurant that is open to midnight. Parties are also catered for in the Lounge bar with 2 separate compartment areas also to the rear of the bar. The bar has very modern furnishings throughout and there is an abundance of seating with high chairs and tables opposite the main bar and more comfortable low leather backed seating to the front and side. The low drop down lighting fixtures and spotlighting to the ceiling give a warm and inviting feel to the place.

The bar is extremely popular and is an excellent addition to this area of the town. It should appeal to most of the drinking crowd and is also popular with business people and those visiting the Odeon cinema and other Gate restaurants/bars nearby. It is very busy during happy hour times when it is packed out with groups of girls. Regular music is on play at most times.

Disabled access is very good with a designated disabled toilet at the rear of the bar. The toilets are very smart and clean. Check out the bars own web site at www.tigertiger-newcastle.co.uk

Stylish Central Station venue that was formerly Po Na Na. The bar has been given an extensive makeover with two levels. There is a small bar downstairs and an roof terrace beer garden with bar upstairs.

The main bar downstairs has plenty of seating with cushions on the seats and there is an intimate area to the rear with subdued lighting and candles on the tables. The decor is of a modern style with a wooden floor and candelabras on the bar. The emphasis is on providing a relaxing and comfortable place to while away the evening.

The bar upstairs can be accessed by stairs to the right of the main entrance. This area is unusual as it has a rooftop beer garden area that is enclosed within the walls of the surrounding buildings. The bar extends on to the decked garden area and there is heated lamps used when the weather is less favourable. There is plenty of seating with a mixture of low tables and chairs and high stools by the bar.

Regular music is on play at most times. It is hard to tell what beers are on offer as there are no names on the pumps however the Tokyo drinks menu is available to help you make your choice. The bar attracts an upmarket clientele and is busy on the weekend but quieter through the week. Functions can be arranged for parties in the candle lit snug area or rooftop garden.

Disabled access to main bar is very good however the rooftop garden is up a steep flight of stairs and would prove difficult. Toilets are small and clean. Check out the pubs own website at www.tokyonewcastle.com

World Headquarters is one of the more underground venues in Newcastle. Hosting many cool nights, including many university affiliated clubnights, WHQ definately offers a 'different' atmosphere. The main club and dancefloor areas are based upstairs, with a bar, pool tables and smaller dancefloor downstairs. The decor and values of WHQ are laid back and loving, with mottos and art all over the place. Definately worth a visit.

Disabled access is very good with a designated disabled toilet on the ground floor and a lift to all floors. Toilets are downstairs and are large and very clean.
